March 1, 1948  –  January 27, 2023

Joanne Ballou, 74, passed away on January 27, 2023, at her home in Exeter, NH.

She was born March 1, 1948, in Stoneham, MA, daughter of the late Calvin O. O’Brien and Winifred (Smith) Ledoux, fondly known as “Winnie”

Joanne grew up in Reading, MA, and was one of two children in her family. She met Stephen A. Ballou in his senior year of high school while he was working at the McDonalds drive through. There was an instant connection between them, and a short time later, they were married on December 5, 1966. Together they raised their two sons, David and Dana, primarily in the town of Reading, MA. Joanne was an active member of her community through her participation in such organizations as the Reading Youth Baseball Association, the Town of Wakefield Garden Club and knitting club. She was a longtime dental assistant for Doctor Crochet in Melrose, MA. Joanne loved traveling, exploring farmers and craft markets, and meeting new people of all ages. She was fond of her pet cats and dogs through the years. She put out bird feeders, and could never resist feeding ducks on her walk. Hummingbirds held a special meaning to her.

Joanne brightened the world with her smile and brightened her home with flowers and paintings she designed. Through the years, she created jewelry, knitted scarfs, and made small crafts to give to family and friends.

In addition to Joanne’s parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Carl O’Brien.

Joanne is survived by her loving husband, Stephen A. Ballou, son, David T. Ballou, son and daughter-in-law, Dana A. and Heather Ballou, grandchildren, David N. Ballou, Hadley Ballou, Hannah Ballou, and Ian Ballou.

A service honoring and celebrating the life of Joanne is pending and will be updated on www.brewittfuneralhome.com when scheduled.
