Judith Alice Webb of Hingham passed away peacefully of natural causes on the morning of August 26, 2026, in her own home, surrounded and supported by her loving husband of 56 years, William G. (Bill) Webb.
Judith was born to parents, the late John and Mertys Webb, also from Hingham. She is survived by her son, Michael; his wife, Anita; and their children, Lorraine, Fiona, Anna, Colleen, and Anthony. She was blessed with three great-grandchildren, Aiden, Vincent, and Lily. Niece Carleen McElroy of New Hampshire and brother and sister-in-law Charles and Lynne Webb of Arizona are among numerous in-laws who loved and supported Judith as well.
Judith graduated from Colby College in Maine and, most notably, was a secretary at The Charles Playhouse in Boston. She and Bill met at Trinity Church in Boston, married at St. John’s Church in Hingham, and resided in Reading for most of their married life. Alice (as she was known in town) volunteered with Creative Arts For Kids, served in the Reading Women’s Club, performed for 20+ years with the Colonial Chorus Players, and concluded her artistic career with The Reading Community Singers. Her love of singing carried over into her participation in the choir at The Church of the Good Shepherd in Reading, where she also headed the jewelry table at the annual church fair and directed the Annual Children’s Christmas Pageant.
Judith was the family’s travel expert and was key to navigating all the family vacations, including three cross-country road trips and early trips to Disney World. She loved tending to the flower and vegetable gardens at the family home. Only too late to share did Michael learn her knack for cooking regular family dinners. Judith supplemented her income as an associate for Cerretanis supermarket (later Shaws) and supported many political activities for her party of choice.
Her favorite activity with her husband was live theatre and classical concerts throughout the North, South shore, and New England. It was a hard choice to narrow down attendance to one community theatre once she moved out of Reading, but she chose The Arlington Friends of The Drama, which she attended four times a year, escorted by her son.
In the last three years, Judith relocated to The Allerton House in Hingham to be closer to her son and get the care she deserved in her later years. She enjoyed and took great pride in Saturday afternoon operas with WCRB, her coffee book, and her classical CD collection. She continued her lifelong hobby of knitting, making a multitude of hats, mittens, and scarves for donations to the church fair. She was an avid reader of The Boston Globe, and with her European History college major, she could engage the most inquisitive visitors with her views on the world
She will be missed, but she is at peace. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Pyne-Keohane Funeral Home of Hingham.
There will be no formal services, but the family will memorialize her privately according to Judith’s wishes.
