Edmund “Eddie” G. Gromyko, Jr. of Seabrook, New Hampshire, formerly of Reading, Massachusetts, passed away with his family by his side on June 1, 2026. He was 81 years of age. Ed was born in Woburn, Massachusetts, the son of the late Edmund G. Gromyko, Sr. and Marjorie (Connors) Gromyko.
Eddie was the beloved husband of Mary “Cathy” (O’Keefe) Gromyko. Devoted father of Robert J. Gromyko and his fiancée, Rosemarie Bannon of Florida, and Kimberly A. Novak of Saugus. He was the loving grandfather of John Novak, Jesse Gromyko, and Jake Novak and the cherished brother of the late Paul Gromyko.
Eddie grew up in Reading and attended Reading Memorial High School, graduating with the class of 1963. In 1964 he met the love of his life Mary “Cathy” O’Keefe. They married in 1966 and their loving partnership spanned 60 years.
Together, Eddie & Cathy built a wonderful family and raised their two children, Rob & Kim. Family was always the center of Eddie’s life, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his children and grandchildren. Eddie was a proud and loving “Grampie” to his grandsons John, Jesse and Jake.
Eddie owned and operated a successful carpet installation business for many years earning the respect of his customers through his dedication and craftsmanship. Later he embarked on a new career in the audio-visual field with Wang Laboratories in Lowell MA where he continued to apply his strong work ethic and technical skills.
Outside of work, Eddie enjoyed sunsets, fishing, the mountains and the ocean. Some of his most treasured memories were made during the many beach vacations he shared with his children and grandchildren.
Eddie’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Visiting hours will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Wednesday, June 10, from 4-7PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading, on Thursday, June 11, at 10:30AM. Burial is private.
