Reading Police Department Arrest and Charge Two in Separate OUI Incidents

READING — Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department arrested and charged two individuals with OUI in separate incidents over the weekend.

A FEMALE, AGE 30, of READING, was charged on Friday, Jan. 5, with the following:

  • OUI Liquor Second Offense
  • Negligent Operation of Motor Vehicle
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle with Suspended License
  • License Suspended for OUI
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Speeding

On Friday, Jan. 5, at approximately 10:36 p.m., Reading Police were dispatched to John Street for reports of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a gray Land Rover had crashed into a telephone pole. The driver had exited the vehicle before police arrived and was being assisted by witnesses.

No one was injured. The driver was later transported to an area hospital as a precaution.

The driver received a summons and will appear for arraignment in Woburn District Court at a later date.

LUKA NIKITA CHARLES POWERS, AGE 23, of WAKEFIELD, was arrested on Saturday, Jan. 6, and charged with the following:

  • OUI Liquor 2nd Offense
  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Marked Lanes Violation
  • Speeding

On Saturday, Jan. 6, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Reading Police were dispatched to the area of Main Street (Route 28) and Bethesda Lane for reports that a vehicle had crashed into a telephone pole.

Upon arrival, officers observed a 2016 Volvo SUV was on its roof. A telephone pole with exposed wires had fallen onto the road.

Officer then located the driver standing next to the vehicle, later identified as POWERS, who had exited the vehicle before officers arrived.

There were no reported injuries.

A preliminary investigation, as a result of a field sobriety test, determined that POWERS was operating under the influence at the time of the crash.

POWERS was arrested without incident.

POWERS was held on $290 cash bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Woburn District Court at a later date.

These are allegations. All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty.
