I am writing to express my enthusiastic endorsement for Melissa Murphy’s candidacy for one of the two Select Board seats in the Town of Reading in the upcoming April 4th, 2023 election. Melissa’s dedication to our community, her background in criminal justice and law, and her commitment to open communication and respect make her an ideal candidate for the Select Board.

As Melissa shared in her campaign statement, she and her husband Brian chose Reading as their home in 2008, seeking a safe and supportive community for their growing family. Over the years, Melissa has become deeply involved in various local organizations, from Connect the Tots to the Wood End PTO, the Wood End School Council, and serving as a Town Meeting member. Her dedication to our town’s well-being and her extensive volunteer work demonstrates her genuine desire to make Reading the best place for all families.

Melissa’s background in criminal justice and her experience as a paralegal have equipped her with the skills necessary to research, analyze, and communicate complex issues effectively. This background will be invaluable in her role as a Select Board member, allowing her to navigate the challenges that our town faces with knowledge and confidence.

In her campaign statement, Melissa expresses her concerns about the growing divide between elected officials in Reading and the increasing politicization of local issues. As a Select Board member, Melissa promises to be a unifying force, fostering open lines of communication, and treating all residents, business owners, and fellow board members with respect.

Melissa’s approach to governance is grounded in the belief that progress comes from listening and debating, not from treating those with opposing views as adversaries. This mindset embodies the type of leadership that our town needs to heal divisions and move forward as a united community.

A vote for Melissa Murphy is a vote for unity, effective communication, and dedication to the well-being of our town. Let us come together on April 4th to support Melissa in her quest to make Reading a place where all residents can thrive.

Sincerely,

James Reichardt
