Local Author Revisits the Past with New Novel

Reading, MA — June 1- Laura Hatosy, local author of a new young adult historical novel, Drawn from Memory, will be featured at a book release party at Whitelam Books on June 7 at 7:00 PM. The book, Hatosy’s first novel, is about Rachel, a sixteen-year-old girl living in Nazi-occupied Denmark with a secret ability to erase memories.

“My novel is historical fiction,” says Hatosy, “but the supernatural element adds a twist to the story.”

Rachel uses her gift to make Germans forget her face or to ease the grief of her friends, but when she’s deported to a Czechoslovakian ghetto, she faces more pain than she can ever erase.

Hatosy learned about the Danish Holocaust experience while she was teaching eighth grade. Denmark protected 99% of their Jewish residents during the Holocaust, despite being occupied by Germany through five years of the war. She wrote her Masters thesis in history on the subject.

“Their unique story has always inspired me, so I’m thrilled to share it with other people.

A book signing will follow a reading. Books will be available for purchase.
