Obituary: Jane P. Flynn, 93

November 17, 1928 – March 16, 2022

Jane “Pat” Flynn, age 93, passed away peacefully at the Aberjona Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Winchester, MA on March 16, 2022. 

Pat is survived by many cousins including the Tudryn family of Hadley, MA, the Honney family of Centennial, CO and Carrickmacross, Ireland, and the Dawes family of Victor, ID.  She is also survived by many friends including her long-time friend and caretaker, Virginia Pierce of Reading, MA.  She is preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Honney Flynn, and her sister, Kathleen Flynn Brick, and her niece Divi Brick. 

Pat was born on November 17, 1928, in Boston, MA.  She lived in Jamaica Plain and spent many summers in Amherst, MA with her grandmother until she graduated from Jamaica Plain High School.  Pat went on to have a very long and fulfilling career in nursing.  She graduated from Melrose-Wakefield Hospital School of Nursing in 1950 and then attended Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University Medical Center School of Nurse Anesthesia in St. Louis, MO where she completed her education as a registered nurse anesthetist in 1952.  Pat worked for many years as a nurse anesthetist in several Boston Hospitals and at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.  She received a BS in Psychology from Emmanuel College in 1970 and MS in Management from Lesley College in 1984.  In the early 1980’s, Pat accepted a position as Vice President of Nursing at Cape Cod Hospital where she worked until her retirement in 1995. 

Pat loved animals and owned dogs her entire life. She also owned a horse, Diablo, who she took riding in the Adirondacks and in central Florida.  While at Aberjona, Pat loved her frequent visits with her “best friend” Titus and his wonderful owner, Carol Meier. 

Pat was an active member of her community during her retirement.  While living in the South Dartmouth, MA area, she was a docent at the Rotch-Jones Duff House in New Bedford, MA, she volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford, MA and was a hospice volunteer and member of the Board of Directors for Community Nurse Home Care in Fairhaven, MA.  After moving to Middleboro, MA, Pat was a member of the Pet Club at Oak Point, a group that raised funds to purchase bulletproof vests for the Middleboro police dogs and volunteered at the Black Feather Horse Rescue in Plymouth, MA.  Her later years were spent at Fox Hill Village in Norwood, MA. 

Pat will be remembered as an energetic, generous, warm-hearted person who loved her family, friends, and all of her animals.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at Saint Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill Street in Reading, MA at 10:30 AM.  A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass at Douglass Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn Street (corner of Woburn Street) in Reading, MA from 9-10 AM. 

Burial will be held at the MossWood Cemetery located at 280 Putnam Ave., Cotuit, MA 02635 on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 11 AM.
