Wakefield, MA — The Jewish community of Wakefield and the surrounding towns will gather to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, a time when Jewish people around the world reflect, pray, and look forward to a year filled with sweetness and blessing for all of humanity. Rosh Hashanah this year begins at sunset on Monday, September 22, and continues through nightfall on Wednesday, September 24.

Rosh Hashanah marks the anniversary of the sixth day of creation, the day humankind was created. It is a reminder to every person that we have a purpose and a responsibility to make the world a better place. In this way, Rosh Hashanah carries a universal message for everyone, Jewish and non-Jewish alike, to pause and reflect on the meaning, purpose, and the opportunity for renewal.
The holiday is filled with symbols of hope. One of the most beloved traditions is dipping apples in honey. Honey never spoils, teaching us that while sweet things in life can sometimes turn sour, we pray that the sweetness of the new year will last and bring only good. The sounding of the shofar, the ram’s horn, awakens us to reflect, return, and begin anew.
High Holiday services will take place on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Wakefield. Services are open to all at no cost, but RSVP is required at jewishwakefield.com/hh. Participants can expect traditional melodies, meaningful messages, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere for every attendee.
For those unable to attend services indoors, there will also be a community shofar sounding on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at 5:30 pm at the Bandstand on Wakefield Common. This outdoor gathering ensures that everyone has the opportunity to hear the shofar and take part in the holiday’s central moment.
“At a time like this, it is more important than ever for our community to celebrate our traditions with pride and confidence,” said Rabbi Sruly Brook, who serves the Jewish community of Wakefield and the surrounding towns.
“We look forward to welcoming a strong turnout as families and individuals join together to usher in the new year with unity and joy.”
