Alan Foulds is a local historian who has written several historically related articles in addition to his book, “Boston’s Ballparks & Arenas.” He is a major contributor to the writing of “At Wood End.” Mr. Foulds is also Reading’s Town Moderator.

Forty years ago today, Boston had its own Olympic cauldron lighting, as opening ceremonies took place at Harvard Stadium. Over the next few days the venue played host to six Olympic soccer matches as part of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. Photo by Dianne Foulds
