Campaign Marks Milestone with Wakefield Event and Reading’s Popsicles in the Park, Closing Out Months of Direct Voter Engagement at Every Train Station in the District
MELROSE – State Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian has held campaign kickoff events across the 5th Middlesex, closing out the series this past week with an event in Wakefield and a Popsicles in the Park gathering in Reading. The milestone comes alongside the conclusion of the campaign’s Thursday Train Tour, a weekly series of transit station visits held every Thursday since the spring at stations throughout the District.
“Over these past several months, I’ve had the chance to be in every corner of this District — knocking on doors, sitting on porches, meeting neighbors at kickoff events, and greeting commuters at transit stations,” said Lipper-Garabedian. “Whether someone’s lived here their whole life or just moved in, rides the transit every day or only once in a while, I wanted to hear directly from them about what matters most. That kind of listening has been a cornerstone of my campaign.”
The kickoff series brought Lipper-Garabedian to Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winchester, building momentum with voters throughout the District. Hundreds of residents attended these events which took place at Pearl Street Station (Malden), Rising Eagle Publick House (Melrose), Memorial Park (Reading), Nobility Hill Tavern (Stoneham), Harrington’s Pub (Wakefield), and Lucia’s Ristorante (Winchester).
The Thursday Train Tour complemented that work with a sustained focus on transportation, a defining issue in this transit-rich corner of the Commonwealth. The 5th Middlesex is served by 10 train stations across the Commuter Rail and Orange Line, along with 14 bus lines. Over the course of the tour, Lipper-Garabedian visited every train station in the district and a number of bus stops, talking directly with riders about the issues affecting their commutes and their communities.
“I’m a proud champion of mass transit in this District,” said Lipper-Garabedian. “In the House, I’ve fought to protect service, secure funding for station and infrastructure improvements, and push for the reliability and safety that riders deserve. I’ll carry that same commitment with me to the State Senate.”
Representative Kate Lipper-Garabedian is a candidate in the Democratic primary for the 5th Middlesex District State Senate seat, which covers Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winchester (Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 8). The primary is Tuesday, September 1.
