Reading, MA — Chief Mark Segalla and the Reading Police Department are looking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man who is believed to be connected to a motor vehicle larceny last night.

At approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 12, Reading Police received a report from a woman that she had witnessed a man suspiciously leaning against a black Audi in the shopping plaza at 1 General Way. The vehicle was parked in the vicinity of Gold’s Gym.

The woman then noticed that the passenger’s side window of the vehicle had been smashed, and that as the man walked away from the vehicle, heading east toward Market Basket, he was discarding items along the tree line. She then was able to take several photos of the man with her phone.

The owner of the vehicle reported to police that her pocketbook, which was on the floor of the passenger’s side seat, was missing. Police later recovered several items from the area that matched what was in the woman’s purse.

Reading Police believe the man may be connected to the larceny and are asking for the public’s help identifying him. He is described as a white male, approximately 6 feet tall and was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, tan shorts, black socks and black sneakers.

“If anyone recognizes this individual, or was in the area at the time of the larceny, we ask that they please immediately call Reading Police,” Chief Segalla said.

Those with information can call the Reading Police Department at 781-944-1212 and ask to speak to the officer in charge. All tips can remain anonymous.
