With the support of grant funding, RCASA is sponsoring the following free programs for adults that live, work or go to school in Reading, Massachusetts.
Course Type: Youth Mental Health First Aid
Audience: Adults interacting with youth ages 12-18, particularly adults that supervise youth as volunteers or employees, parents of teens, or adults that volunteer with teens.
Dates: Saturday November 5, 2016 from 9-4 pm
Location: Reading Police Dept. Community Room, 15 Union St., Reading
Cost: Free (grant-funded)
Details: The program covers the unique risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. It uses role playing and simulations to demonstrate how to assess a mental health crisis, select interventions and provide initial help as well as connect young people to professional, peer, and self-help care. Participants will receive a book and certification.

Course Type: Adult Mental Health First Aid
Audience: Adults interacting with adults, particularly those that manage or supervise employees. The course is an evidence-based program. Over 600 adults in Reading have taken the course and highly recommend it!
Date: Sat. November 19 from 9-4 pm
Location: Reading Police Dept. Community Room, 15 Union St., Reading
Cost: Free (grant-funded)
Details: The program covers the unique risk factors and warning signs of adult mental health problems, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches individuals how to help an adolescent in crisis or experiencing a mental health challenge. The course also covers the impact of mental illness and provides an overview of common supports. It teaches the common risk factors and warning signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, substance use, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia. Local resources are shared. Participants will receive a book and certification.

Human Resources Credit Hours for Mental Health First Aid- Mental Health First Aid (program ID 240318) has been approved for 6.50 (HR (General)) recertification credit hours through the HR Certification Institute. These apply to the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) certifications.
