Gregory P. Spurr, of North Reading, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was 85 years old.
Gregory grew up in Reading, Massachusetts, and attended high school at Governor’s Academy. As a youth, he spent his summers at the Spurr family’s seasonal home on Gooserocks Beach in Maine, where he developed a lifelong appreciation for family and the outdoors.
A skilled tool and die maker by trade, Gregory began his career working at his family’s business in Reading, manufacturing Ace Art Corners and similar products. Throughout his life, he held various tool and die positions across Massachusetts, earning the respect of those who worked alongside him for his craftsmanship and dedication.
While he took great pride in his profession, Gregory’s true passion was building, modifying, and racing flathead dragsters. His talent and determination earned him numerous trophies throughout his racing career. In 1979, he was honored as Top Competitor at New England Dragway, and in 2022, he was inducted into the Orientals Hot Rod Club Hall of Fame in recognition of his lasting contributions to the sport.
Gregory also treasured time spent with his family. Whether boating, water skiing, or simply enjoying the outdoors at his seasonal lake house in New Hampshire, he created many cherished memories with those he loved most.
Gregory is the beloved husband of the late Judith A. (Schena) Spurr. He is the devoted father of Julie Spurr Knight and her husband Ronald Knight III and Debbie Fuller. The cherished grandfather of Nicole Fuller, Shannon Fuller, Corrin Knight, and Jackie Knight, and loving great-grandfather of Emmalin, Amelia, and Natalie. Gregory was predeceased by his brothers Sherman and Kenneth and leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends that will miss him greatly.
