Obituary: Richard R. Doucette, 72

October 11, 1953 – April 9, 2026

Richard R. Doucette of Lynn, formerly of Reading and Melrose, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 9, 2026.  He was 72 years of age.

Richard was born in Melrose, Massachusetts, on October 11, 1953, and was the cherished son of Marion C. (MacArthur) Doucette of Reading and her late husband, William A. Doucette, Jr.

Richard grew up in Melrose and graduated from Melrose High School in 1972.  Soon after, he answered the call to serve by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment he carried with pride and one that shaped his lifelong reverence for fellow Marines and all who serve. A talented carpenter, Rick built a career in the construction trades in the Reading area, specializing in windows and siding for many years. Also an avid golfer, Rick enjoyed watching and playing the game and, in his day, capturing several course championship titles himself. He loved all Boston sports and could often be found catching a game and trading stories and daily news with friends at 621 Grille in Malden and Rollys Tavern in Lynn. Rick was well known by friends and family for his humor as much as his hard work, loyalty, grit, and determination. Nothing, however, made him prouder than his family, and the days he loved most were those spent with his children and grandchildren who lovingly called him Papa “D”.

Richard was the beloved husband of Mary (Grazewski) Carlson.  Devoted father of Christina M. Doucette and her husband William Jackson III of Reading, Rachel A. Evans and her husband Benjamin of Reading and Richard R. Doucette, Jr. of Edgartown.  He was the loving grandfather of Amelia Grace Jackson, Cleo Evans, and Elle Evans.  Richard was also the cherished brother of William A. Doucette III and his wife Catherine of Florida, Donald Doucette and his wife Diane of Texas, and Cheryl Doucette of Reading.  He is also survived by his former wife Hadi Doucette of Reading and by many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held for Richard at the Douglass, Edgerley, & Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading on Friday April 17, 2026, from 9am-10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30am.  Burial with military honors will follow at Wyoming Cemetery in Melrose.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to My Brother’s Table 98 Willow St Lynn, MA 01901 or the a charity of your choice.
