About the ACE Committee
The Ad Hoc Commemoration Establishment (ACE) Committee was created by the Reading Select Board to honor the legacy of Bill Russell, while also confronting the history of racism he and his family experienced in Reading.
Comprised of a diverse group of residents and community representatives, the Committee’s charge includes:
- Researching Bill Russell’s life, civil rights advocacy, and connection to Reading
- Acknowledging the harms endured by the Russell Family in Reading
- Developing educational programs and community discussions focused on equity and inclusion
- Planning annual events that celebrate Russell’s values of justice, sportsmanship, and civil rights
The ACE Committee’s work supports the Town’s broader goals of diversity, equity, and social justice, helping ensure Reading continues to grow as a welcoming and inclusive community for all residents.
