Robert “Bob” Frederick Brown, a Korean War Vetran and lifelong resident of Reading, passed away on August 16, 2026, at the age of 96. Bob was the son of the late Robert M. and Greta (Simpson) Brown. He grew up in Reading with his brother Alton and sister Dorothy, where he played football and hockey.
Bob was the beloved husband of Clairice (Jacobs) Brown for over 73 years. He was a devoted and loving father to Marcia Brown of Reading, Leslie (Warren) Cochrane of York, Maine, and David (Diane) Brown of Chelmsford. Bob was lovingly referred to as GP by his five grandchildren, Bobby, Mark, Thomas, Chris, and Alison, as well as his five great-grandchildren. Over the years, he watched each grow up, introducing them to hockey and golf and rooting them on at all their games.
After graduating from Boston University, he started his insurance business and shortly thereafter launched Lewis, Clark & Brown, which he successfully managed for over 50 years. His greatest decision was hiring Christine Foire. She worked with Bob, learning and eventually buying the business.
Bob also enjoyed life. His favorite place to vacation was Cape Cod, and specifically the bayside in Eastham, MA, where he could look at the flats at low tide. He was proud to have been a 58-year member of Meadow Brook Golf Club, where he played many rounds of golf, served on the Board of Governors, and watched his children enjoy the pool and golf. He also loved taking care of his lawn and took pride in keeping his home looking beautiful.
Bob’s funeral will be held at Douglas, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St (corner of Woburn St), Reading, on Monday, August 31, 2026. Family and friends are invited to visitation from 1100 am to 12;00 pm. A short service will be held at 12:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
