Obituary: James Potter Morris, 94

June 11, 1929 ~ April 6, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of James Potter Morris, 94, of Reading, on April 6, 2024, in Tewksbury, surrounded by his loving family. James was born on June 11, 1929, the son of Sydney J and Vivian L (Potter) Morris, and grew up in the Greenwood section of Wakefield. He married the love of his life, the late Dorothy J Quinn, in Wakefield in 1950, commencing 67 years of blissful marriage.

After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War era, he returned and moved to Reading, where he raised his family and became a longtime resident for 65 years.

A graduate of Franklin Technical Institute and a Master Electrician by trade, Jim had a 38-year career at Cambridge (MA) Electric Light Company, starting as a watch electrician and concluding as the Manager of the Meter Department. He retired in 1992 to spend time with his grandchildren, whom he loved beyond compare.

Jim loved cars and boats, spending summer vacations with his family at Newfound Lake, Lake Winnipesaukee and finally Lake Sebago.

In addition to losing his wife Dot in 2017, Jim is predeceased by his parents and brother Jack. Left to mourn his loss are his sons, James Paul Morris and his fiancée Kathleen Wilk of Kennebunk, Maine and Kenneth John Morris and his wife Elizabeth (Carey) of Tewksbury; his grandchildren Bryan and Sean of Barrington, Illinois, Cameron (Rebecca) of Lowell, Connor (fiancée Alexandria) of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Caitlin of Reading, as well as a dear cousin, Margaret DePopolo of Boston.

The family wishes to thank Juliet Donohoe for the exquisite care she provided during the recent years.

Family and friends are cordially invited to visiting hours at the Cota Funeral Home, 335 Park St. (Corner of Park St. and Rte. 28 at the Reading Line), North Reading, on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 12:00pm to 2:00 pm
