Austin Prep School Placed on Brief Lockdown, Reading Police Respond

READING — Police Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department responded to Austin Prep School as the school was placed on a brief lockdown this morning. 

On Thursday, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Austin Prep received reports that an unknown individual was on campus. The school followed standard protocol and placed the school in shelter and place, meaning students were asked to remain in their classrooms but regular instruction would continue. 

Reading Police immediately responded to the campus and Austin Prep placed the campus on lockdown at approximately 11:45 a.m.  

Reading Police conducted a thorough search of the building and school grounds, utilizing all available on-duty police personnel to assist with the search.

Through an extensive search, police determined that there was no danger to the school community and that the individual was an Austin Prep student.  

The lockdown was lifted at 12:11 p.m. and students were able to return to their regularly scheduled classes.  

Reading Police and Austin Prep would like to thank students and staff for their cooperation.

Reading Police School Resource Officers will remain on campus for the remainder of the day.
