February 6, 1929 — October 27, 2023

Carl A. Sacco, 94, of Reading, MA, formerly of Medford, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on October 27th.

Carl was born on February 6, 1929, to Carlo and Nellie Sacco. After graduating from Medford High School, Carl enlisted in the Army and was honorably discharged in 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal and studied in the Medical Field Service division. He became a firefighter for the City of Medford in 1951 and remained on the force serving as a lieutenant until his retirement in 1987.

In 1949 he married Ann Hardy, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. Together they raised six children. Carl M. Sacco predeceased his father, Steven Sacco of Scarborough, Maine, Bonnie Sacco predeceased her father, Nancy Sacco and her partner James Tams, of Lynnfield, Jayne Sacco and husband John Buckner of Gloucester and John Sacco and his spouse Tina Grasso of Beverly. Carl was grandfather to Carl Jr, Matthew, Jessica, Helaina, Peter, Sean, and Edward and great-grandfather to Isabella. He was also a proud uncle to nieces and his nephew.

Carl was a positive force of nature and a provider for his family. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world. His generosity of spirit and grateful heart prevailed in the face of the tragedy of losing two children and his beloved wife. He was invincible. Despite managing several serious illnesses, he lived deliberately, with joy, and celebrated every family gathering. Carl possessed innate wisdom and people were inexplicably drawn to him. He was known and loved by everyone in his community.

Carl was someone who cared and listened. Everyone from family to people he just met sought his counsel. His playful heart, sense of adventure, love of life, his wife, big family, flying kites, great food, music, dancing, home projects, boating, the Celtics and the Patriots were some of his sources of joy.

He will be deeply missed. He faced every challenge in life with remarkable strength and courage. Dad, you are at peace and will live on forever in our hearts.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, MA on Thursday, November 2 from 4-7pm.
