Reading, MA — At a short 48-minute-long meeting on Tuesday, the Select Board voted 5-0 to appoint member Mark Dockser as its representative to the designer selection committee for the senior center feasibility study. This committee will review submissions from the recently issued request for qualifications and determine which firm will perform the feasibility study.

In nominating Dockser for the role, Select Board member Karen Herrick noted that Dockser had already given significant time to the issue through his participation in the Reading Center for Active Living Committee. Member Christopher Haley agreed, stating that Dockser had been the member who has “spearheaded” the project for the last several years.

Change of Manager

The board also voted 5-0 to approve the change in manager for Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza to Chris P. Larsen. Larsen is a 40-year veteran of the restaurant industry who, when asked, affirmed the board’s emphasis on compliance with alcohol service standards. It is necessary for the board to approve changes of manager for any establishment that has an alcohol license in the community.

Public Comment

During public comment, the board heard from resident David Talbot, who urged the board to use any influence it may have to encourage McDonald’s corporate officers to think more broadly about the refurbishment of its Reading location, possibly considering an option that is more reflective of the community. Resident Angela Binda also asked the Select Board to consider a 1.35 commercial shift when it sets property tax rates at its next meeting. The board is scheduled to set the rates at its October 24 meeting.

The Select Board adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
