Lions and Scarecrows and Photography, Oh My!

Reading Lions in October

Reading, MA — This month, the Reading Lions are busy around town. Kicking off the fall season, we have an activity that’s fun for the whole community – our Third Annual Scarecrow Contest! With a $20 donation, you’ll receive a basic scarecrow kit, ready to assemble and decorate in your own style. Be creative and submit a photo of your entry by October 21 for a chance to win a prize in the categories of Scariest, Funniest, and Best Overall. All proceeds fund the groups we support and our community. You can pick up a kit at the Reading Public Library on Saturday, October 7 & 14. We’re also at Harrows on October 8 & 9 and October 15 & 16. Follow us on Facebook, or visit readinglionsclub.org for more details/times.

Lions worldwide serve to prevent avoidable blindness and improve the quality of life for people who are blind and visually impaired. In keeping with this mission, we’re excited to announce the launch of a new healthy vision program: Retinal Photography Screening. Partnering with the Reading Pleasant Street Center, the Lions will provide a free periodic screening service for those with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), to monitor for the possible further development of the condition. Screenings will take place Mondays through Wednesdays under the auspices of the Massachusetts Lions District 33N Eyemobile and the Reading Lions Club. Each screening, which poses no risk to you and will not involve eye drops, should take about 20 minutes. For more details on how to register, please see ReadingLionsVision.

The Reading Lions Club proudly serves the community of Reading. With a core focus on vision care, we also strive to serve those with other needs. Our fundraisers support Mass Lions Eye Research, Reading Food Pantry, Camp Sunshine, and many others. You’ll see Lions around town serving an annual dinner at the Pleasant Street Center, driving the Lions, and organizing events such as the Lions/FORR Journey for Sight Road Race and Reading Friends and Family Day. Whether you are looking to lend a helping hand or pursue a leadership role, Lions has an option for you. Interested in joining the Lions?
