A Commuter’s Library: RPL On Wheels Weekly Visits to the Reading MBTA

Reading, MA—The Reading Public Library’s book bike – or RPL On Wheels – is making weekly visits to the MBTA Commuter Rail on Tuesdays! Pick up a book, get a library card, or bring home a movie for the family. Whatever you need at the end of a long day, RPL is there for you.

RPL On Wheels is an electric assist trike, which the library acquired through generous funding from the Reading Public Library Foundation in 2022. It has made trips to various fairs, festivals, and schools in town but it is now time to size up its commuting competition.

Library staff will peddle the bike on Tuesdays from 8-9 am and 4-6 pm now through September in hopes of connecting with the community that is on the go. The bike will be parked on the side of High Street near the commuter crosswalk. A current or updated schedule will be available weekly.

The bike has multiple levels of shelving that we fill with books for all ages, movies, items from our Library of Things collection, and flyers to highlight upcoming events. Having trouble with Hoopla or Libby but can’t make it to the library until the weekend? Stop by and we will do our best to keep your digital items streaming. Ultimately, the RPL Book Bike will help library staff grow connections in the community in a new and exciting way.

Want to learn more about RPL On Wheels or suggest a stop or visit? Visit the library’s website or stop by the Reading Fall Street Faire on September 10th.
