Obituary: Robert J. Jutras, Sr., 87

June 18, 1935 – June 4, 2023

Robert “Bob” Jutras, Sr, 87, of Reading Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, June 4, 2023. Born June 18, 1935, in North Cambridge, Massachusetts, Bob was the son of the late Jeffrey and Juliette (Janelle) and brother of Albert Jutras of Stoneham, MA, and Ruth Coleman of Waltham, MA. Bob was predeceased by his sister Geraldine Pratt and brother Paul Jutras. Devoted husband of Marie T. Jutras (Polastri), to whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Loving father of Mark A. Jutras and his wife Donna of Upton MA, Robert J. Jutras Jr and his wife Janice of York, Maine, and Peter M. Jutras and his wife Michelle of Hudson, NH. Loving “Grampy” to Erica Jutras and her husband Seth Berg, Alexandra, Jamie, and Robyn Jutras, and his bonus grandchildren Brian and Hannah Keefe. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. 

Bob graduated from Cambridge Rindge Technical High School in 1954. He was captain of the 1953 football team and in 2007, was inducted into the school’s hall of fame, Bob proudly served in the United States Air Force and became an aircraft electrician, servicing B-36 and B-52 jet bombers and KC-135 refueling tankers at Loring Air Force Base (SAC) in Limestone, Maine. Bob began his professional career as a licensed electrician at Harvard University in 1966, and after 34 years, he retired as the Manager of Athletic facilities. In this role, he was responsible for the Athletic buildings and 35 acres of playing fields, including Harvard Stadium. Bob was a devoted Patriots fan and loved all things football. His hobbies included running, gardening, photography, genealogy, and traveling. Some of his and Marie’s most memorable trips included those with his brother and sister-in-law, the late John and Myrna Polastri, as well as Hawaii and St. Simons Island, Georgia, with his brother Al and sister-in-law Pat. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Bob on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at St. Athanasius Church 300 Haverhill St. Reading at 10:30am. Burial with military honors will be held at Wood End Cemetery in Reading. There are no visiting hours.
