Reading PD Statement on Pedestrian Struck on Haverhill Street

The following statement was released by the Reading Police Department on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 4 p.m.

Reading, MA — Chief David Clark reports that the Reading Police Department is investigating a serious motor vehicle crash where a pedestrian was struck Saturday afternoon.

At approximately 2 p.m., Reading Police responded to the area of 244 Haverhill St. for a report of a woman struck by a motor vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers located a 79-year-old woman who had been struck and was suffering from serious injuries. The woman was transported by ambulance to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington.

The 19-year-old operator of a Nissan Rogue, who allegedly struck the woman, remained at the scene and is cooperating with police.

The cause and circumstances of the crash remain under investigation by Reading Police. Members of the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section are responding to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Haverhill Street will remain closed from Timberneck Drive to Wakefield Street while investigators are still on-scene.
