Obituary: Dorothy Huck Giunta, 93

September 5, 1929 – April 4, 2023

Dorothy H. Giunta, 93 of Annandale, VA, formerly of Arlington and Reading MA, passed away
peacefully on April 4, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Pierre A. Giunta. Loving mother to Michael Giunta and his wife Peggy of N. Reading, Laura Giunta and her husband Joseph Castro of Ashburn, VA, Christina Langlois of Haverhill, Marie Giunta of Annandale, VA and the late John M. Giunta and his surviving wife Karen Giunta of Virginia Beach, VA. Dear grandmother to Lee and Christopher Giunta, Timothy and Zachary Castro, Jordan and Matthew Langlois, Nina and Chloe Giunta. Great grandmother to Athena Castro, Isabelle and Olivia Giunta. She also leaves behind her beloved nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was born in Bridgeport CT, the only child of Mary Soyka Huck and Alexander Huck. She was
stepdaughter to Ralph Miller and Bill Samolis. Dorothy grew up in New Britain CT, graduating from New Britain High. Following high school Dorothy attended Morse business school in Hartford CT, where she met Pierre.

After all the children started school, she became a very active member of the YMCA in Woburn, playing racquetball and volleyball. It was volleyball that became a passion for her, as she played on an adult league and became a volleyball referee for the US Volleyball Association and worked numerous local high school and college matches. Dorothy loved reading and gardening. Later in life she joined a bowling league, Red Hat Club and was treasurer of her women’s investment club. She volunteered to prepare tax returns for Arlington residents who needed assistance. Dorothy enjoyed her work as an accountant in many local car dealerships. She loved attending plays and musicals, often traveling to CT and NY with her sister-in-law Antoinette Giunta and nieces Anita, Theresa and Barbara Zakrzewski. She attended and enjoyed her grandchildren’s various sport and school events over the years and was pleased to welcome her 3 great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the DeVito Funeral Home 1145 Mass. Ave., ARLINGTON, MA on (Saturday April 15th from 9:00am – 11:00). Following a brief prayer service in the funeral home, interment to be held at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothy’s name may be made to alzheimers.org
