Fellow Reading Residents,

In our time together on the Finance Committee and Select Board, and in the time since I “retired” from the Board, Karen Herrick has been clear-eyed in her vision for a sustainable Reading. Karen works to make Reading a financially sustainable and environmentally sustainable community which fully appreciates the threat climate change poses to our lives, as well as the financial challenges faced by municipalities, and takes proactive steps to address them. While I share Karen’s goals around sustainability, Karen was always the one who led the Board’s work to effectuate them.

Karen has also been creative and persistent in her efforts to secure more state and federal funding for Reading, a priority which she brought to our Town Manager search. It was a pleasure to work with her in leading the Select Board’s search for a new Town Manager, a process that brought Fidel Maltez to Reading as our current Town Manager. Karen’s focus on the importance of securing state and federal funding in the Town Manager search meant that we selected a Town Manager with a similar focus, much to the benefit of our community.

Karen has also been fully supportive of efforts to foster a more inclusive community in Reading, my top priority while serving on the Board. It was critical to have Karen as an ally in that work, as that work continues to face strong headwinds and requires ongoing commitment by the Town and Select Board.

Although I currently do not have the time to dedicate to service on the Select Board, I’m deeply grateful that Karen Herrick is willing to dedicate her time in service to our community on the Board. Her experience, leadership, and vision make her an essential member of the Board for the next three years.

Please join me in voting for Karen Herrick for Select Board on (or before) April 4th. To learn more about Karen, please visit votekarenherrick.com.
