Obituary: Barbara A. Hanley, 89

January 25, 1933 – July 18, 2022

Barbara A. (O’Donnell) Hanley, age 89, of Reading, formerly of Medford, died peacefully on Monday, July 18, 2022.

She was born in Boston on January 25, 1933, and was the daughter of the late William and Catherine (Keating) O’Donnell.

Barbara was raised in Chelsea and was a graduate of Chelsea High School. She was a graduate of Fischer Junior College. She was talented at sewing, crocheting, and knitting, which she enjoyed doing for her family. She was a longtime resident of Medford and a member of St. Raphael Church of Medford and St. Athanasius Church of Reading. Barbara was retired from the W.R Grace company of Woburn. Her favorite place was Disney World in Florida, and her greatest pride was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was the beloved wife of the late Richard J. “Dickie” Hanley. She was the loving mother of David Hanley and his wife Odille of Tewksbury, William Hanley and his wife MaryEllen of Hudson, N.H., Richard J. Hanley Jr., of Lebanon ME, Maryellen Russo and her husband Matthew George of North Reading, and Lorraine Willwerth and her husband Wade of Reading. She was the sister of the late William “Buddy” and Richard “Dick” O’Donnell. Barbara is also survived by her sisters-in-law, and her 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the McDonald Funeral Home, 19 Yale Ave., Wakefield, on Monday, July 25, beginning at 8:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Raphael Church, 512 High St., Medford at 11:00 a.m. Interment is private.
