Obituary: Edward F. Murphy, 86

November 3, 1935 – May 4, 2022

Edward F. Murphy a resident of Reading for over 50 years,  passed away on May 4, 2022, at the Winchester Hospital in Winchester, Massachusetts. He was 86 years of age.  Edward was born on November 3, 1935, the son of the late Edward F. and Ethel M. (Brennan) Murphy. 

He was a graduate of Northeastern University and worked as an accountant for Shawmut Bank, Bank of America and later had his own accounting business until retirement. He had many hobbies and interests including scuba diving, aviation and history. He and his wife Muriel enjoyed traveling to many destinations including Egypt and China. He was an active parishioner and served as an Usher at Saint Agnes Church. 

Edward was the beloved husband of the late Muriel F. (DiPirro) Murphy. Cherished brother of the late William Murphy. Loving brother-in-law of Eleanor Santosuosso and her husband Robert of Stoneham, Raymond DiPirro and his wife Marie of Melrose, the late Constance Kingsbury and her husband Homer of Somerville.  Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 7 at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (corner of Woburn St.) Reading from 9-10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Agnes Church 186 Woburn St. Reading at 10:30am.  Burial in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.  

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to the St. Agnes Building Fund 186 Woburn St. Reading, MA 01867.
