Soon it will be time for nomination papers to fill the five elected Boards and Committees and 192 Town Meeting seats. Every day on Facebook I read all you that bellyache about the way Reading is run. I strongly suggest that you stop doing so and get off your rear ends and run for office. If my health allows it is my intention and the voters of precinct 8 allow me to extend my fifty-four years as a Town Meeting Member.

All 192 Town Meeting seats will be up for grabs this year. It is Town Meeting by a majority vote that approves the budget. it is Town Meeting by a 2/3 vote that approves proposed Zoning regulations, it is Town Meeting by a 2/3 vote that approves By-Law changes, it is Town Meeting by a 2/3 vote to make proposed changes to the charter before going to the voters.

The commitment as an elected Town Meeting Member is about 8-10 nights in most years.

So you have the choice to continue to complain or get off your rear ends and take out papers to run for office but at the least Town Meeting, it took me nine years to get these-at I have held for fifty-four years and I feel that I have made a difference.

See you at Town Meeting?
