Obituary: Kathleen M. Cardillo, 86

January 25, 1935 – July 01, 2021

Kathleen (Creedon) Cardillo “Kathy” of Reading, died peacefully on July 1, 2021, at the age of 86. Born on January 25, 1935, in Stoneham and raised in Wakefield; the daughter of the late Daniel (Chris) Creedon and Mary C. (Donegan) Creedon.

Kathy graduated from Wakefield High School and received her RN from Massachusetts Memorial Nursing school. Kathy also continued her education later in life and received her Associate of Science degree from Bunker Hill Community College.

She practiced nursing throughout much of her life, including at Polaroid as their company nurse and as a Visiting Nurse in Middlesex County. She also worked as a discharge planner at the Melrose-Wakefield hospital for many years. After her retirement, Kathy volunteered for twenty years at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, MA.

Kathy was an avid reader. She enjoyed book swapping and mastering challenging crossword puzzles. She was a loyal fan of the Red Sox, and enjoyed talking about sports with family and friends.

She resided in the same house in Reading for sixty years and built friendships and lifelong memories there. She cared deeply for her neighbors and friends and they felt the same toward her.

She was predeceased by her husband, George Cardillo. Kathy is survived by her children Karen Pantano and her husband Ken of Windham, NH, Cheryl Hanlon and her husband Paul of Reading, Bob Cardillo and his wife Donna of Andover, and Linda Zorzonello and her husband Peter of Peabody.

Kathy is the loving grandmother of Bobby Pantano, Andrew and Meghan Hanlon, Lauren and George Cardillo, and Peter and Emily Zorzonello. She also leaves behind her sister Margaret O’Hara of Plymouth and many nieces and nephews who were always in her thoughts.  She will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held at the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St. (cor. of Woburn St.) on Thursday, July 8th from 4:00-8:00 PM.  Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, July 9 at 9:30 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 AM.  Burial will be at the Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Kathy’s name to Mission of Deeds, 6 Chapin Ave., Reading, MA 01867.  For directions and online guestbook, visit www.johnbdouglassfuneralhome.com
