Obituary: David R. Marshall, 63

David R Marshall, 63, of Reading, formerly of Stoneham, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 17, 2021, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington. He was the son of the late Robert & Theresa (Begley) Marshall and son-in-law of the late Madelyn “Carol” Ells.

David was born and raised in Stoneham and graduated from Stoneham High School Class of 1976. He was a former member of the Stoneham Elks and served in the Army National Guard.

David loved history, movies, gardening, and reading books, but his passion for cooking stands out the most. He always worked in the food industry but mostly enjoyed cooking for family and friends. He often made dishes with his own personal flair and when asked for the recipe, he would say, “I just use a little bit of this and a little bit of that”.

David was always willing to help out family or friends whenever he could. This was especially true in the later years when David and his wife Debbie took on the role of caregiver for David’s parents. We are truly thankful that this allowed our mother and father to live out the remainder of their lives happily and safely in their own home.

In the last few years, David suffered health setbacks and relied more on his wife for care. Stubborn and determined to do things his way, he tried to keep a positive outlook for others, always asking when he entered a room, “How we doing?”

David is survived by his loving wife Debra (Ells) Marshall, his brother Richard and his sister Lorraine Welch, her husband Ed, and their two sons, Thomas and Glen. He is also survived by sisters and brothers in law Leslie and Dan Cogan, Kim and Gus Beaton, Laurie and Bobby O’Neill, Cliff Ells, Joanne, and Paul Sullivan, Jimmy and Lisa Ells, Elizabeth Ells, the late Billy Ells, his Aunt June Marshall, Aunt Nancy Begley, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with David’s Family on Saturday, April 24th from 2-5 pm in the Barile Family Funeral Home, 482 Main St. (RT 28) STONEHAM. Parking attendants and elevator are available.
