Obituary: Barbara A. (McGoldrick) Castine

Barbara A. (Babs) (McGoldrick) Castine of Reading passed at home on October 19, 2020, at 88.  Beloved wife of the late David L. Castine.  Loving mother of David Castine and his wife Wendy of Wakefield, Carol Healy, and her husband David of Wakefield, Nancy Cresta and her husband Richard of Reading, Stephen Castine and his wife Linda of Seattle, and Diane Castine of Wakefield.  Dear sister of the late John McGoldrick.  Barbara adored her grandchildren and devoted Grammy/Mimi to Brittney Bergeron and Casey Castine, Jocelyn and Graycie Healy, Sofia, Giavanna, Santino, and Gennaro Cresta, and Nathan Castine.  Loving great-grandmother of Landon Bergeron.  Barbara was also an aunt to many wonderful nieces and nephews.  Barbara is also survived by many loving and dear friends.  She loved spending time sitting with her friends in the morning at The Last Corner Restaurant. 

Barbara grew up in Everett and was the daughter of the late Josephine and John McGoldrick (both from Ireland). After graduating in 1950, Barbara worked for General Electric in Lynn.  After raising her children, she worked until she retired at Addison Wesley Publishing Company in Reading, MA.  She met many wonderful, life-long friends there.  She loved the beach and spent time with her family each summer in York Maine when her children were young.  Later she would vacation with her grandchildren in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Marshfield, MA.  She loved playing bingo with friends and enjoyed her visits to the casinos.  She enjoyed long rides, going to dinner, and loved talking with everyone.  Barbara enjoyed years of knitting and made wonderful keepsakes for her loved ones.  The holidays were her favorite times of the year, and loved decorating for them all.  Babs loved to laugh and made everyone smile.  She will be dearly missed by many!

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, October 26, at St. Joseph’s Church, 173 Albion Street, Wakefield, MA, at 10:00 AM.  Burial will follow at Forest Glen Cemetery in Reading, MA.  Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Douglas Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn Street (corner of Woburn Street) Reading.  Masks MUST be worn.   Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Reading Food Pantry, 6 Salem Street, Reading, MA 01867.
