In a letter dated September 16, Elaine Webb informed the School Committee chair Chuck Robinson of her resignation from the committee. Webb cited the need to focus on family, extended family, and her career as reasons for her departure. “I am not able to commit and devote the significant time and energy required to service our district and community as a School Committee member.” Webb’s letter declared.
“I have enjoyed the privilege of serving on the Reading School Committee for more than twelve years,” Webb stated in her letter. “The quality and success of our Reading Public Schools is critically important to our community.” she continued.
Webb’s is the third resignation from the School Committee in as many years, following the resignation of Gary Nihan in November of 2017 and Sherri VandenAkker earlier this year. The School Committee is expected to vote this Thursday to request a joint committee with the Select Board to choose a candidate to fill the position until the local election next March.
“The community and the district should offer a lot of thanks and gratitude to Elaine Webb for her many years of tireless work for our children” Robinson stated.
