Water/Sewer and Tax Bills Mailed Soon

The current Water/Sewer/Storm Water bills will be mailed on September 8, 2017 and are due by 5:30 PM on October 16, 2017. Payments not received by October 16, 2017 will accrue interest daily at an annual rate of 14% until payment is received. Postmarks are not accepted. The white mail box in the parking lot will be emptied at the close of business on each payment due date. The next bills will be mailed on December 8, 2017.

The second installment of the FY2018 preliminary real estate/personal property tax bills will be mailed by September 30, 2017. Payment is due by November 1, 2017. The preliminary bills do not show either the valuation of the property or the tax rate; this information will be included on the actual tax bills after they are approved by the Department of Revenue in the late fall.

The preliminary bills are based on last year’s actual bills, plus liens and betterments, less abatements and exemptions, as adjusted to reflect the annual 2.5% tax increase allowed under Proposition 2 1⁄2. The state mandated annual interest rate is 14% for late payments. The first installment of the FY2018 Actual bills will be mailed in December. Payments not received by the due dates are subject to interest and demand fees.

The town of Reading can only accept debit and credit card payments through its online payment service; the link is available on the home page of the town’s website.  Customers using an online bill payment service through their  banks should allow 7 – 10 business days to guarantee on-time payment. Please verify that the the proper bill number or account number is referenced on the payment. Bill numbers change each time and are often not updated on on-line bill payment checks which can result in misapplied payments. The town of Reading does not receive electronic payments from banks unless customers use the link from the town website. Choosing to use this link, allows payments up until the due date and the payment will be considered timely.
