Building More Than Kindness Kits: The Savings Bank and First Financial Trust Give Back

Employees assembled 100 Kindness Kits for children facing illness, hospitalization and other challenges during a team-building event in Wakefield

WAKEFIELD, MA — Employees from The Savings Bank and First Financial Trust gathered at The Savings Bank in Wakefield on October 22, 2026, for a team-building event benefiting Connor’s Kindness Project (CKP).

Working side by side, employees assembled 100 Kindness Kits for children facing challenging circumstances, including hospitalization, serious illness, trauma, and other difficult life experiences.

Each Kindness Kit contains carefully selected items designed to provide comfort, encourage therapeutic play and give children healthy ways to cope during stressful times.

The event is part of CKP’s growing Community Volunteer & Engagement Program, providing businesses, corporations, and community organizations a hands-on way to make a tangible difference.

Where Team Building Meets Community Impact

Corporate volunteer experiences offer something traditional team-building activities often can’t: a chance for employees to work toward a shared goal that matters beyond the workplace. Every kit employees assemble will be delivered to a child who needs extra kindness and support.

Research supports the value of these experiences. In a 2024 Deloitte survey of 1,000 U.S. office professionals, 91% said workplace volunteer opportunities can positively impact their overall work experience.

“As a community bank, we believe our responsibility goes beyond banking,” Allison Sullivan, Senior Vice President, Human Resources, The Savings Bank. “Bringing employees from The Savings Bank and First Financial Trust together to assemble Kindness Kits lets our team give back in a personal, hands-on way. It is rewarding to know that our work will bring comfort to children in our own communities when they need it most.”

“The Savings Bank and First Financial Trust showcased how businesses of every size can make community service part of their workplace culture,” said Sharon Marrama, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Connor’s Kindness Project. “In only a half an hour, their employees created 100 moments of comfort for children going through some of the hardest days of their lives. We are so grateful for their partnership.”

Making It Easy for Businesses to Give Back

Through CKP’s team-building program, businesses sponsor Kindness Kits and bring employees together to assemble them at CKP’s Kindness Factory in Woburn or at their own workplace. Each assembly experience takes about 30 minutes and gives employees a chance to connect with colleagues, learn about the needs of children in their communities, and take part directly in CKP’s mission.

Companies can also include a personalized sponsorship label in each kit, connecting their commitment to community service with the children and families they support.
