Reading Police Seek Public’s Help After Man Found Bound on Roadside
On Sunday, Oct. 1, at approximately 8:19 p.m., Reading Police were dispatched to the area of North Main Street and Short Street on a report that there was a man bound on the side of the road. Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a Lawrence man, restrained with duct tape. Following a preliminary investigation, Reading Police determined that the man had been assaulted prior to being bound by his assailants. (More)

99-Year-Old Army Corporal Receives His Sergeant Stripes
After a 71-year wait, Reading resident Corporal Bernard M. Pothier, 99, was officially promoted to Sergeant on Thursday, September 28, 2017, in a ceremony at his home on Charles Street that was well attended by family, local and state officials, and members of the Massachusetts National Guard. The Reading-North Reading Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting focused on parking with Reading business owners. The meeting was facilitated by Andrew Corona, Economic Development Director of the Town of Reading. Many ideas were discussed and the Town is currently in the process of examining different solutions to address downtown parking concerns.
Reading Receives Two Year “Safe Harbor” from New 40B Applications
On September 22nd, the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) officially accepted the Town of Reading’s request for an additional year to the 1-year break from new 40B applications, and certified that the Town is in compliance with its Housing Production Plan. The request was made shortly after the decision for the Postmark Square 40R was filed with the Town Clerk on September 12, 2017. (More)

Sub-Division Plan off of Franklin Street Approved
CPDC approved the subdivision plan for a new development at 48-54 Franklin Street on Monday, September 25. The 5.83 acre site with 400 feet of frontage on Franklin Street sits across from the Wood End Cemetery and will have six one-family homes situated on a cul-de-sac. (More)
