Obituary: Virginia M. Berberian, 92

June 26, 1930 – August 5, 2022

Virginia M. (DuLong) Berberian, 92, a longtime resident of Reading, passed away after a short illness on Friday, August 5.  She was the wife of the late John Berberian who died in 1996.

Born in Melrose and raised in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph, and the late Bertha (Collins) DuLong.  Virginia was a graduate of Medford High School.  She went to work in the accounting department of H.P. Hood Dairy, where she stayed until she left to raise her daughter.

In her younger years, Virginia was an excellent softball player.  As a pitcher, she was known for her curve-ball and fast-ball; and she was even invited to play on the men’s league.  In 1978 Virginia began working for Marshalls Department Stores, retiring as an accounting clerk in 1996. She loved dancing, laughing, drinking wine, gambling, and spending time with friends and family.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Karin Berberian of Reading; her sister, Phyllis Scannell of Wilmington; and her niece and nephews, John Scannell, Sandra Morello, and Richard Berberian.  She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and her dog “Ollie.”

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, in Medford on Thursday, August 11 at 10:00 am.  Visitation will be prior to the Mass at church from 9:30-10:00 am. Burial will be private.
