Mirogiannis delivers pair of assists as Lions open 3-0 for first time since 2007
DUDLEY, Mass. (September 5, 2026) – Emerson College capped off a run of three straight road wins in the opening week of the season with a 3-0 victory over Nichols College in a non-conference men’s soccer match at Nichols Soccer Field today.

Emerson is off to a 3-0 start to its season for the first time since opening the 2007 season with four victories – collecting all its wins over the opening week of the season on the road. Sophomore Nick Mirogiannis (Reading, Massachusetts/Reading Memorial) assisted on the Lions first two goals in the opening 13:23, getting goals from three different players in the match.
Senior Thomas Pelino (San Jose, California/Laurel Springs School) scored for the second-straight match for Emerson, with sophomore Carlo Carson (Brooklyn, New York/Poly Prep) and first year Cade Lagerwey (Manhattan Beach, California/Mira Costa) also contributing markers. First year Lasse Bartsh-Erforth (San Diego, California/Pacific Ridge) and sophomore Finn MacLeod (Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts/Martha’s Vineyard) combined in posting the Lions second shutout of the season in the Lions goal. Bartsh-Erforth made one save over the first 81:25, while MacLeod was untested in the final 8:35.
Senior Anthony Grguric (Toronto, Ontario/Western Reserve Academy) made six saves but yielded three goals over the first 73:33 in the Nichols goal.
Emerson grabbed a quick two-goal lead with Mirogiannis playing a role in each of the Lions two first half markers. He first set up Carson’s first goal of the season (fourth career) just 6:28 into the match and then added a second helper as Pelino struck for the second-straight match in the 14th minute, also assisted by senior Ethan Minster (Wenham, Massachusetts/Hamilton-Wenham).
Lagerwey closed out the win with his second goal of the opening three matches of his collegiate career in the 67th minute, assisted by junior Vigo Cassidy (Culver City, California/Culver City).
Emerson (3-0-0, 0-0-0 NEWMAC) is back in action on Tuesday when it visits Connecticut College for its fourth-straight road game to open the season at 4:30 p.m. The Lions home opener is next Saturday, September 12, when they host Widener University at Rotch Field at 1 p.m. Nichols (2-1, 0-0 CNE) visits Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
