May 8, 1941 – August 15, 2026

Muriel Ann Hall, a lifelong resident of Reading, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Muriel was born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on May 8, 1941, the daughter of the late Johnena and Charles Matthews. She grew up in Reading and graduated from Reading High School with the Class of 1959.

Muriel was loved by all who knew her. Kind, caring, hardworking, and completely devoted to her family, she spent her life putting those she loved before herself. She often worked multiple jobs to support her children and provide for her family. Over the years, Muriel worked in the food service industry, including Nordberg’s Catering, Reading Public Schools, and Sunrise Senior Living.

More than anything, Muriel loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a constant and loving presence in their lives. If someone she loved had an event, Muriel was there. She rarely missed a track meet, soccer, hockey, field hockey, softball, baseball, football game, cheerleading competition, band performance, or any other opportunity to support her family. Her children and grandchildren always knew they could look into the stands and find Muriel there, cheering them on.

Muriel’s greatest joy was her family, and the love she gave them will remain her greatest legacy. She will be remembered for her strength, generosity, devotion, and the countless ways – both big and small – that she showed her love. Her family was her world, and to her family, she was the heart of theirs.

Muriel was the loving sister of Margo Richards of Wilmington and the late Daniel Matthews and Charles Matthews.

She was the beloved mother of James Hall and his wife, Caroline, of Sanbornville, New Hampshire; Derrick Hall and his wife, April, of Stuart, Florida; Andrea Caruso and her husband, Chris, of Reading, Massachusetts; and Norman Hall and his wife, Jackie, of Wilton, New Hampshire.
