Chairman Haggerty, Housing Committee Tour Soldier-On, Veterans’ Supportive Housing

Representative Haggerty, House Chair of the Joint Committee on Housing, and members of the committee recently toured Solder-On’s new, 21-unit supportive housing building serving veterans

TEWKSBURY – State Representative Richard Haggerty (D-Woburn) and members of the Joint Committee on Housing recently toured Soldier On’s new supportive housing complex, the Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Village, one of 61 total supportive locations across the state that provide location-specific services to over 8,800 subsidized housing residents.

The two-hour tour, including Vice Chair Ramos (D-North Andover), Representative Bowen (D-Beverly) and Representative Robertson (D-Tewksbury), saw the committee walk through the modern facility, which opened its doors in 2025, a local veteran’s room and a table discussion of how states can better assist supportive housing production and services.

Supportive housing services at Solder On and other sites across Massachusetts include clean, affordable living spaces for those in need, transportation services, job and application help, mental health services, food preparation and services, financial training, and legal assistance.

Soldier On’s Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Village is one of 10 locations statewide the nonprofit serves veterans in need and those transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing. Solder On, established in 1994, also has supportive housing in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

“Wonderful to meet with Soldier On and tour their new supportive housing units in Tewksbury,” Representative Haggerty said. “Here in Massachusetts, we care for our veterans and that includes getting them good housing, good jobs, quality healthcare, and getting the care they need so veterans can easily acclimate to civilian life and live in our communities with dignity and respect they deserve. I want to thank Soldier On’s VP of Operations, Mike Hagmaier, Dan Bosley and the members of the Joint Committee on Housing for this opportunity and see first-hand how the state can better support our veterans and those in need.”

“Thank you to the team at Soldier On in Tewksbury for welcoming us and allowing the Joint Committee on Housing to see firsthand the life-changing work being done to support our veterans,” Rep. Ramos said. “The organizations commitment to providing stable housing, supportive services and a pathway to independence for those who serve our country is truly inspiring. Every veteran deserves dignity, security and the opportunity to thrive, and Soldier On is delivering on that promise each and every day. I am grateful to the staff, leadership and residents for sharing their experiences and for demonstrating the profound impact this organization has on our communities.”

There are 500-600 homeless veterans in Massachusetts, according to recent data from the Healey-Driscoll administration.

Soldier On works in tandem with the state’s HOPE program, which provides outreach and housing counseling to connect homeless veterans and their families across Massachusetts with stable housing. Since September of 2025, over 1,000 veterans have enrolled in the program.

“Soldier On wants to thank Chair Haggerty and the House members for their tour of our Tewksbury facility,” said Dan Bosely, who represents the nonprofit organization. “We appreciate the support for veterans as well as your efforts to address homelessness across the Commonwealth. Our veterans appreciate your hard work for veterans.”
