Obituary: Rina (Aguilera) Garca 


GARCA Rina A. ( Aguilera ) of Medford on April 16. Loving mother of Fausto J. Garca of Reading, MA and Marcia G. Ross of Rochester, MA. Cherished grandmother of Cristina, Gregory, Diane and Marisa; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Rina was the beloved former wife of Fausto R. Garca. She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Rina was born in Holgun, Cuba to Bienvenido Aguilera and Tomasa (Martn); she received her Doctorate in Education from the University of Havana. Rina was a respected teacher of emotionally challenged children and youngsters for the Instituto Psicopedaggico Crespo in El Vedado, Havana, Cuba.

Accompanied by her immediate family, Rina left Cuba in January of 1962. She later became a Professor of Spanish at Wheaton College and taught at Sharon High School for sixteen years. Rina also took great pride in the fact that her grandfather and great-grandfather were respected military medics in the Spanish-American War that resulted in the independence of Cuba from Spain.

Funeral arrangements by the Gaffey Funeral Home at 43 High Street MEDFORD. Relatives and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass to be held at Saint Joseph’s Church of Medford on Monday, April 25th, at 10 am. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Rina’s name may be made to Saint Joseph’s Church Building Fund, 114 High Street, Medford, MA, 02155.
