Reading Cares Bicycle Recycling & Give-Away

May 3 & 4

Reading, MA — ReadingCares and the Reading Climate Advisory Committee are again hosting the annual Bike Recycling and Give-Away. The public is invited to donate their used bikes (in good condition) at RMLD, 230 Ash Street, on Friday, May 3rd, from 11 am to 12:30 pm and on Saturday, May 4th, from 9 am to 11 am. All donors will receive a voucher for early admission at noon on Saturday to choose a free bike. Free Bikes will be available to everyone starting by 12:30 pm on Saturday, May 4.

All bikes and materials are donated. All labor is done by volunteers. We also enjoy the support of RMLD, Town of Reading, Reading Police, and REI Coop. The RPD and REI will have items to distribute to participants.

There will be no parking on site for the Saturday afternoon adoption period. Please park on nearby streets and lots, and plan to walk your “new” bike back to the car. Or ride it home!

There are volunteer opportunities for the event: On Friday, May 3rd, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., 2-3 people will be needed to accept donated bikes at RMLD. On Saturday, May 4, several people will be needed to help wipe down the bikes, pump tires, and organize the donations. Contact ReadingCares01867@gmail.com for more information on volunteering or on the event in general.

Come down to see what it is all about! This project assists families and individuals across the community by providing free, safe bikes, and by providing a responsible way to recycle old bikes.
