Storm Wreaks Havoc Around Town

READING, MA — Heavy rain and wind hit Reading Monday morning, causing tree damage and power outages around town. Some highlights from the Police & Fire log:

  • Tree knocked down power lines on Howard Street.
  • Report of low-hanging power lines on Summer Ave
  • Tree fell on the pumping station on Josheph Way.
  • Trees down on Linden Street, knocking out Verizon lines.
  • Tree blocked the road on Summit Drive at Summer Ave.
  • Tree causing wires to arc and smoke on Whittier Road.
  • Tree down on Winter Street.
  • Tree down & small fire on the ground at Camp Curtis Guild.
  • Tree down on Batchelder Road.
  • Tree branch fell on a parked car blocking Nichols Road.
  • Trees knocked down ries and transformer on Cathrine Ave.
  • Tree down on Lowell Street house with possible structural damage.
  • Lage branches blocking Mill Street.
  • Report of flooding on Willard Road, High Street, Vine Street, Main Street, Forest Street, Harrison Street, Pearl Street, Timberneck Drive, Willow Street, and Haverhill Street.
  • Tree fell on the back of Hancock Street House.

Just before noon on Monday, December 18, the Police and Fire Department were dispatched to Haverhill Street near Camp Curtis for a large tree fell on a vehicle with a person trapped. Haverhill Street was closed by the Police. Crews arrived to find a single vehicle with severe damage and one trapped occupant. The occupant was extricated and transported to a trauma center by Reading Fire Paramedics.
