Obituary: Barry S. Skinner, 82

April 28, 1940 — February 17, 2023

Barry Stephan Skinner, 82, of Warner, passed away February 17, 2023.

Barry was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on April 28, 1940. He then moved to Frayser, Tennessee until he was 18. Barry found himself living in New England, where he met the love of his life, Kathleen Treanor. Once the two married, they started a family and Barry enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served for four years. Barry and Kathleen started raising their family in Reading, MA, then moved to Salem, NH. From there, they moved to Warner, NH to enjoy the country life. They raised cows, pigs, sheep, horses and chickens, some of which were 4H projects. Barry worked for UPS for 20 years, owned and operated a gas station/garage for 3 years and then worked for Anheuser-Busch for 18 years before he retired. In all the years of working, Barry never missed a game that his girls/grandkids played in. They were always his priority and pride and joy. Barry had strong community service. Volunteering at the Warner ski tow, Warner Fall Foliage Festival, Cougar Boosters at the High School, little league coach, volunteer Warner police department, Holiday Thanksgiving baskets, Christmas toy drive, and countless church and 4H dinners.

Barry enjoyed his time playing and then coaching in the Warner Men’s softball league where they had won the championship one year. He also had great love for the Boston Red Sox, Celtics and New England Patriots, especially when watching with his family. Barry loved to spend time outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and family vacations and enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren to the Warner fishing derby. He would take his grand kids on a “best of the playground tours” where they would always end with ice cream (Black raspberry for him). He had great love for music, went on to play the guitar where he “mastered” Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Smoke on the Water! Deerfield fair was one of Barry’s favorites! He loved horse pulling. He would watch for hours while eating bacon wrapped hotdogs. Barry was also known to have bought a calf or two while at the fair and take it home in the back of the station wagon. He and his grandson won a pig at the pig scramble one year and you guessed it! It came home in the backseat of the truck.

His love for the holidays made the season so special for his family. He enjoyed any reason to have a cookout, family dinner or get together. He and his wife Kathleen loved to do random acts of kindness; Paying for tolls, someone’s coffee, meals, Christmas presents, sporting equipment, kitchen supplies at the church, and rides to and from appointments.

Barry had an amazing sense of humor and a kind disposition. Always a smile on his face and a cowboy or John Deere hat on his head, and when asked how he was, his response was always “terrific”, “ready to chase wild women”. His love of Mai Tai’s was well known as was his love for his family and country.

Barry was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather Barbara and Herbert Lucy, his father Ward Skinner, his brother Brent Skinner, and his wife of 59 years Kathleen Skinner. Barry leaves behind his daughter Noreen Fifield and her husband Danny Fifield and their two children Kaitlin and Hunter Fifield, his daughter Kathy Shifrin and her husband Jason Shifrin, his Daughter Caleen Fisher and her husband Dan Fisher and their son Jacob Fisher. He had great love and respect for his care givers, Nina Glendenning, Christy Cusanelli, Lainey Larry, and Sarah Wilson.
