Obituary: Lisa Whalen, 58, RMHS Class of ’82

March 16, 1964 – February 9, 2023

WHALEN, Lisa of Rockport, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington. It was an unfortunate blood clot that led to her untimely death. She was just 58 years old. Born in Everett, Lisa lived in Massachusetts most of her life and was rarely far from the sea. In her early years, Lisa attended school in Reading, where she was a popular cheerleader and taught aerobics her senior year. She would go on to be an advisor for a successful travel agency in Boston. In her late twenties, seeking opportunity, she traveled to Denver and took acting classes with a recruiter from Hollywood. She was an inspiration to many of her younger cousins, especially Kathleen, who says she always looked up to her and admired her beauty and grace.

Lisa’s work adventures involved countless hospitality venues where she proved to be a skilled sous-chef, bartender and server. Lisa’s true talent, however, was her inventiveness and ability to think outside the box: She often would conjure ideas for games and gadgets to make life more fun and navigable. Her card game, “Flip-poker,” is tangible evidence of her untapped genius. She also enjoyed the cinema. A lover of pets, she took great pleasure in giving cats and dogs her undivided attention. More recently, she’d discovered an exciting new venture in the online store, Poshmark, where she had an uncanny knack for finding brand-name gems in thrift stores that she expertly showcased in her shop, ChelseaKid.

She was a kind and gentle soul who made the world a more interesting place and will be deeply missed. Beloved daughter of Rosemarie and James of Punta Gorda, FL, and mother of Kale; devoted sister of James, Michael and Steve and his wife, Jenna; loving aunt of Tyler, Nicholas, Benjamin, Elizabeth, Ryan, Samantha, and Luke. Lisa is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her friends especially Steve Koehler and Mike Moriarty. Services are private. Contributions in Lisa’s memory to the charity of one’s choice would be sincerely appreciated.
