Cheryl Dockser, Age 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 1, 2022. With her empathy, intelligence, humor, and courageous spirit, Cheryl brightened the life of everyone she met. She thought deeply, loved ferociously, and never backed away from a challenge. Cheryl’s children and grandchildren were what powered her. She was a lioness in supporting her brood.
She is remembered lovingly by her children, Mark and his wife Linda Snow Dockser and Ken and his wife Dana; her brother Samuel Bahn; six grandchildren, Josh and his wife Katherine, Aaron, Avery, Jennie, Corey, and Shel Dockser; and countless others whose lives she touched.
Cheryl was married to her soul mate, Sidney Dockser of beloved memory, for nearly 60 years. The two of them shared a deep bond forged in laughter, reading and writing together, building a beautiful family, and an unwavering commitment to Tikkun Olam, repairing the world.
Cheryl was a true leader and role model for the world. She was a vocal advocate for people’s rights, a staunch supporter of democracy, and a beacon for justice and kindness. She was able to connect with anybody and make a difference in their lives. Even if you just met her, you knew that she was a rare kind of person who you felt blessed to know.
A retired teacher who earned her doctorate in education, Cheryl never stopped learning or sharing her wisdom. In her free time, she volunteered to teach ESL classes and tutor elementary aged children. She was known by friends and family for sending postcards to unregistered voters, encouraging them to be involved in local government decisions. She continued to take university classes as well as being an active member of poetry and writing groups, recently completing a book of poetry and a novel called “What a Day May Bring Forth”, to be published soon. Cheryl and Sid had a profound connection to the history and spirituality of Judaism. Cheryl was an active participant in Musar classes at her beloved Temple Mishkan Tefila and had a meaningful lifetime relationship with Temple Kehillath Israel.
Cheryl was perhaps most at home when sitting with the birds at the family house on the Cape. There she and Sidney built a loving home where friends and generations of family gathered to share in sacred silence and bouts of raucous laughter. She enjoyed getting back there just a few weeks ago for a visit.
