Obituary: Shirley A. (Donabedian) Essegian, 84

May 7, 1938 – August 18, 2022

Salem – Shirley A. (Donabedian) Essegian, 84, of Salem, NH, died Thursday at Lawrence General Hospital.

Shirley was born in Salem, NH, to the late Suren and Virginian (Aaronian) Donabedian. She grew up and was educated in Salem, graduating from Woodbury High School, where she was a three-sport athlete. She was a lifelong resident of Salem, with the exception of a few years in Reading, MA.

Shirley was a retired RN for New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. She also was a traveling nurse, that would care for people at home. She was a member of the Nurses Assoc. in Boston, MA, and a member of the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Point and the Ararat Armenian Church in Salem. She enjoyed New England sports teams and playing bridge.

Shirley was predeceased by her daughter Pamela Stone and her sister Virginia Chudoba. She is survived by her husband Harold Essegian of Salem, NH; siblings: Laz and his wife Carole Donabedian of West Hartford, CT, Janice Chabot of Buford, GA, Kenneth and his wife Carol Donabedian of No. Conway, NH, Suren Jr. “Jay” and his wife Carol Donabedian of No. Conway, NH, and Margaret “Peggy” and her husband George Boyajian of Glen, NH; many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Monday, Aug. 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m, followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armenian Apostolic Church at Hye Pointe, 1280 Boston Road, Haverhill, MA, 01835.
