Alan Foulds is a local historian who has written several historically related articles in addition to his book, “Boston’s Ballparks &  Arenas.” He is a major contributor to the writing of “At Wood End.” Mr. Foulds is also Reading’s Town Moderator.

The early 1900s was a more innocent time in some ways. Access to the governor’s office was not complicated. Anyone could walk in and ask to speak with the state’s chief executive. One day in 1907, a would-be assassin walked in and began shooting. The governor survived the attack and was actually one of the heroes of the day.
