Obituary: Rose H. (Spear) Brogan, 91

November 18, 1929 – September 30, 2021

Rose H. (Spear) Brogan, 91, of Reading, passed away at her home after a short illness on Thursday morning, September 29. She was the wife of the late William J. “Bill” Brogan, Jr. who died in 2002.

Born in Arlington and raised in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Frank and the late Helen (Linehan) Spear. Rose and her late husband Bill came to Reading in 1964.

She was a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St. Athanasius Church in Reading. She loved being around her family and her pug dog Molly. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother who spent her free time cooking, baking and volunteering at the church. She always made you feel welcomed and loved.

In addition to her husband Bill, Rose was preceded in death by one daughter, the late Noreen A. Chlebowski. She is survived by five sons and daughters, William J. Brogan, III and his wife Maureen of Andover, Ronald M. Brogan and his wife Paula of North Reading, Teresa H. Younis and her husband Robert of Reading, Linda L. Boylan, and her late husband William of Wakefield, and Kevin Brogan of Reading. Rose is also survived by one sister, Marilyn Crosby, and her husband Richard of Reading, thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the Douglass, Edgerley & Bessom Funeral Home, 25 Sanborn St., Reading on Wednesday, October 6 at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Athanasius Church, 300 Haverhill St., Reading at 10:30 am. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 pm. Burial will be at the Charles Lawn Cemetery in Reading. Contributions in Rose’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. For directions and an online guestbook, visit johnbdouglassfuneralhome.com
