Caranfa, Paul, Robert – Of Reading, on May 13. Beloved husband of Andrea Caranfa (Monaco). Devoted father of Emily Caranfa. Devoted son of Domenico Caranfa and his late wife Lina (Grossi). Dear brother of Anthony Caranfa and his wife Rosemarie of Medford, Steven Caranfa and his wife Kim of Somerville, and the late Susan Caranfa. Paul is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. After a courageous battle with cancer, Paul passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.
He was 59. Paul was raised in Somerville and settled in Reading where he raised his family. Paul graduated from Boston College in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He enjoyed his career as a chemist for many years and loved working in the lab. Paul’s hobbies included following the Red Sox, gardening, reading, and all things to related to science.
One of Paul’s passions included tracking the weather. He always informed us when bad weather was coming to make sure we were safe. He was more accurate than the weather forecasters, and would often say “don’t they even look at a map?” Paul also enjoyed celebrating his Italian heritage through cooking. Being Italian food means love. And he loved watching cooking shows and trying out new recipes. He enjoyed sharing these wonderful meals with family and friends, especially his tomato sauce and steak dishes.
Paul’s favorite place was the ocean. Many wonderful memories were made over the years spending summer vacations with family and friends in Ocean Park, ME. For many years Paul played pool weekly with his lifelong friends. They shared countless laughs and unforgettable times together. We’ll never forget all the great parties they hosted over the years. Paul also had a sarcastic sense of humor and even made us laugh right up until the end. We will always treasure these moments. Paul will be deeply missed.
